Nuggets’ Injury Woes Deepen: Jonas Valanciunas Sidelined Weeks After Strong Night vs. Raptors
The Denver Nuggets’ frontcourt depth has taken another hit, with Jonas Valanciunas now sidelined after a strong showing that ended abruptly. What started as a productive night against his former team quickly turned into a concern that could linger for weeks.
Denver Nuggets announced Thursday that Jonas Valanciunas will be reevaluated in four weeks after suffering a right calf strain during Wednesday’s 106–103 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Valanciunas exited the game with 4:03 remaining in the third quarter after visibly limping off the floor.
Before leaving, the veteran center was productive against his former club, posting 17 points and nine rebounds in just 23 minutes. His absence is notable for a Nuggets team already dealing with multiple injuries in the rotation.
Valanciunas serves as the primary backup to reigning MVP Nikola Jokic, who is also currently sidelined. Jokic hyperextended his left knee in Monday’s loss to the Miami Heat and is likewise scheduled to be reevaluated in four weeks, leaving Denver thin at center in the short term.
The injury issues extend beyond the middle. Denver is already without several starters, including Aaron Gordon (hamstring), Christian Braun (ankle), and Cam Johnson (knee), further testing the team’s depth as the season progresses.
With multiple key contributors unavailable, the Nuggets will be forced to lean heavily on their remaining healthy players while monitoring the recovery timelines of both Valanciunas and Jokic. How well Denver weathers this stretch could have a significant impact on its positioning in the weeks ahead.
